December 2014

With Christmas looming, there was only one Saturday section this month which was attended by 9 volunteers (32 hours between them) which they cleared some of the drainage ditch near the mansion.

 

The inducted gardeners contributed 21 hours, removing brambles, spreading woodchip, weeding, trimming Laurel and tidying fire site.

November 2014

A Total of 30 Saturday volunteers attended contributing 105 hours in total.

Removed brambles, weeds and leaves from beds in Arboretum, holly growing under tree in field, planted cyclamen and new shrubs in Temple garden.

 

The Inducted Gardeners contributed 30hrs Weeding, wood chipping in Temple and clearing the pond in the Arboretum.

October 2014

Saturday Volunteers contributed a total of 93 hours during the month

Weeding and spreading wood chip in the Temple gardens, burning the brash in the fire site

 

The 7 Inducted Gardeners contributed a total of 46 hours throughout the month , removing weeds, spreading wood chips, litter picking, cutting the grass and pruning in Stile garden.

September 2014

Saturday Volunteers contributed a total of 84 hours during the month

  • Weeding and spreading wood chip in the Temple gardens
  • Burning the brash in the fire site

 

Inducted Gardens did 56 hours total worked

  • Weeding and spreading wood chip in the Temple Gardens
  • Weed control in other areas of the park
  • Cutting grass pruning and weed control in the Stile Garden 

August 2014

Saturday Volunteers contributed a total of 77 hours during the month.

Arboretum

July 2014

Saturday Volunteers contributed a total of 46 hours during the month. The second (19th July) did not take because Fun in the Park was taking place and instead the volunteers helped out generally at the event.

May 2014

Saturday Volunteers contributed a total of 117hours during the month.

·         Clearing the ditch line at the southern end of the Arboretum.

·         Removing brambles weeds and trimming trees in Arboretum.

·         Mulching the shrub bed by the east gate into the Arboretum.

·         Mulching the rhododendron beds in Temple garden.

The FOLP Inducted Gardeners’ accumulated 62 hours this month

·         Clear laurel, sycamore and weeds from the Temple Gardens

·         Spread woodchip in Temple Gardens

·         Clear leaves and maintain Stile Gate Garden  

·         Prune the Mahonia in Temple Garden.

April 2014

This month the Saturday Volunteers contributed a total of 160 hours during the month.

  • Continued removing the Rhododendron Ponticum form the north west of Temple Gardens, on the other side of the ditch.
  • Started clearing the ditch line on south side of Arboretum between the field gate and the Manor House.

 

The volunteer gardeners’ accumulated 58 hours this month

  • Tided up Stile Garden, cutting the grass and weeding.
  • In Temple Garden pruned some of the Mahonias.
  • Removed brambles, weeds and leaves from Temple Gardens.
  • Tided up generally by removing debris and litter picking.
  • Cutting back the invasive Rhododendron Ponticum.

March 2014

The Saturday Volunteers contributed a total of 144 hours during the month.

  • Working on the north west of Temple Gardens, on the other side of the ditch, removing Ponticum.
  • Pruning Apple trees in Arboretum
  • Sowing wild flower seeds at the bottom of Verney’s Walk
  • Trimming Yew trees.

 The FOLP Volunteer Gardner's contributed 49 hours

  • Maintain of Stile Garden.
  • Litter Picking
  • Repositioning over crowded Rhododendrons
  •  Cutting Back Bamboos in the Arboretum.

 

February 2014

The Saturday Volunteers contributed a total of 64 hours this month, unfortunately the second conservation day, 15th February, was cancelled as the Park was closed wile the rangers inspected the Park for damage due to high winds overnight but the work they did was:

  • Repairing bridge over ditch at the North West entrance to Temple Gardens
  • Now three rail sleepers wide instead of two.
  • Burning brash
  • Working on the north west of Temple Gardens, on the other side of the ditch, removing Ponticum

The FOLP Volunteer Gardner's contributed 66 hours

  • Clearing Vista paths of weeds
  • Clearing storm debris from Temple Gardens & Arboretum
  • Ditch digging & clearing leaves
  • Repositioning over crowded Rhododendrons
  • Bramble removal
  • Trimming Lime trees

January 2014

This month the Saturday Volunteers contributed a total of 100 of hours of work in the Park.  Their time was spent

  • Burning brash
  • Removed the invasive Ponticum from the north west area of Temple Gardens.
  • Planted 1,000 Blue Bell bulbs in the woodlands as you enter Temple Gardens from the north entrance (A412 Uxbridge Road).

 The FOLP Volunteer Gardner's contributed 95 hours:

  • Labelling Trees.
  • Finishing mulching the rhododendron beds.
  • Removing leaves from grass.
  • Litter picking and clearing paths & ditches
